Jasmin Fischer was born in Duisburg, Germany in 1976. She studied political science, journalism, and American studies, receiving a Masters in 2001. During this time, she spent a semester at SUNY Binghamton in New York and held internships at the Federal Press Office (Bonn, Germany), the United Nations Development Fund for Women (New Delhi, India), the Washington Times (Washington, DC), and the Deutsche Presse Agentur (Leipzig, Germany), amongst others.

She worked as a freelance journalist for the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung (WAZ), the Washington Times, Berliner Zeitung, and for the Süddeutsche Zeitung before being hired as an editorial trainee with WAZ. She has been an editorial staff member since 2004 and recently moved to London on a correspondent’s assignment. She holds a doctorate in American Studies from the John F. Kennedy-Institute of Freie Universität Berlin.
